OAuth can be intimidating if you’re not used to coding. Here we breakdown how anyone can access these APIs without code or having to dive deep. If you prefer we put together a short video, and if you’d like extra help email us at our support address in the footer.

1. Ask For Access

To start with most applications will ask you to tell them you’re going to access their API via OAuth. To do this you’ll setup an OAuth app through their developer portal. Usually this is straightforward. It is similar for most APIs too. A screenshot of us setting up an application to use Inoreader with Apipheny and Google Sheets is included below.

2. Collect the Variables You Need

Facebook, Instagram, Google Ads, and Etsy all use a similar approach. The important values here are the OAuth Client ID and the OAuth Client secret. The rest you can get by a quick search of their documentation.

3. Paste Variables Into Apipheny Config

Back in a Google Sheets window open up Apipheny and click the OAuth config button down the bottom. A screenshot is below. Enter the values you collected before. The Redirect URI should populate automatically. The Authorization URI and the Token URI will be in the developer documentation for the API you want to connect to.

Click Authorize to approve Apipheny’s connection to your app, then click connect to verify.

Now your sheet is connected to an OAuth API and you are ready to import data from tricky APIs like Google Ads and so on without code.

4. Make your Spreadsheet Reliable!

Don’t forget to make your spreadsheet reliable. We have some essential tips to make sure your spreadsheet stays reliable and easy to work with, even when APIs change or you want to have someone else work on it with you. Here are our essential tips for spreadsheet operational excellence.
