How to connect the Google Ads API to Google Sheets

You can use the Google Ads API to import data from your account into Google Sheets. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to connect the Google Ads API to Google Sheets in 6 steps:

  1. Install the Apipheny add-on
  2. Obtain your API key
  3. Choose an Endpoint
  4. Enter your API request into Apipheny
  5. Run the API request in your Google Sheet

Step 1.) Install and open the Apipheny add-on for Google Sheets

Apipheny is a free API connector for Google Sheets. You can use Apipheny to connect your Google Sheets to API data sources, easily.

1.) Install Apipheny by opening the following link on desktop and then clicking the Install button in the Google Marketplace: https://apipheny.io/install

2.) After you’ve installed Apipheny, open a Google Sheet and then click on the Extensions dropdown in the menu at the top.

In the dropdown list you should see Apipheny. Click Apipheny then click Import API to open the Apipheny sidebar in your Google Sheet.

open apipheny

Tip: you can open a new Google Sheet by entering this URL in your browser: sheet.new

Step 2.) Obtain your API Key

The Google Ads API uses OAuth, which is a premium feature and requires a slightly different setup.

The first step is to obtain a developer token from Google.

These are usually approved quickly. Then we’re going to obtain a client ID and client secret. The short process is described step by step.

Now have everything you need for our OAuth tutorial to configure the rest.

Step 3.) Choose an Endpoint

Browse the Google Ads API documentation to find the action that you would like to perform: https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/start

Step 4.) Enter your API request into Apipheny

In Apipheny, copy and paste your API URL

Google uses a mix of GET and POST requests. Make sure to use the one described in the documentation.

Step 5.) Run the API request in your Google Sheet

Finally, the last step is to click the Run button at the bottom of the Apipheny add-on and then wait for the API data to be imported into your Google Sheet.

After making a successful request to the Google Ads API, try querying a different endpoint, or try using one of the more advanced features in the Apipheny add-on. You can create and manage campaigns, analyze performance, investigate who is part of your audience and how they engage with your brand and more!
