Want to plan the perfect disc golf setup? The DiscIt API provides access to a large database of disc golf discs, including flight ratings, brands, categories, and stability information. By connecting the DiscIt API to Google Sheets with Apipheny, you can import disc data directly into your spreadsheet and keep it updated whenever you need.
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to connect the DiscIt API to Google Sheets, retrieve disc golf disc data, and create custom searches using query parameters.
The DiscIt API is a REST API that provides access to public disc golf disc information sourced from the Marshall Street Disc Golf Interactive Flight Guide. Developers can use the API to retrieve data about disc models, manufacturers, flight characteristics, stability ratings, and more.
Some of the available data fields include:
Disc name
Brand
Category
Speed
Glide
Turn
Fade
Stability
Product links
Flight path images
The API offers simple GET endpoints that make it easy to search and filter disc data.
If you haven’t already, install the Apipheny add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
After installation:
Open Google Sheets.
Click Extensions > Apipheny > Import API.
The Apipheny sidebar will open on the right side of your spreadsheet.
To retrieve all available discs:
Open Apipheny.
Enter the following API URL:
https://discit-api.fly.dev/disc
Leave the Headers section blank.
Select GET as the request method.
Click Run.
Apipheny will send the request and import the returned JSON data into your spreadsheet.
The DiscIt API supports filtering results using query parameters.
For example, to retrieve only very overstable discs:
https://discit-api.fly.dev/disc?stability=very-overstable
To retrieve Innova control drivers:
https://discit-api.fly.dev/disc?brand=innova&category=control-driver
Enter either URL into Apipheny and click Run.
The API will return only records that match the specified criteria.
The following fields can be used as query parameters when searching for discs:
| Parameter | Example |
|---|---|
| id | id=123 |
| name | name=aviar |
| brand | brand=innova |
| category | category=control-driver |
| speed | speed=12 |
| glide | glide=5 |
| turn | turn=-1 |
| fade | fade=3 |
| stability | stability=overstable |
You can combine multiple parameters in a single request:
https://discit-api.fly.dev/disc?brand=discraft&speed=5&stability=stable
This returns discs matching all specified criteria.
Some fields use URL-friendly slug values for filtering.
Examples:
| Display Value | Query Value |
|---|---|
| Crank SS | crank-ss |
| Dynamic Discs | dynamic-discs |
| Very Overstable | very-overstable |
| Control Driver | control-driver |
Spaces are replaced with hyphens and special characters are removed.
Once you have a request working correctly, you can save it for future use.
In Apipheny:
Click Save Request.
Give the request a name.
Click Save.
Saved requests can be rerun at any time without re-entering the URL.
So by now you have probably setup a new tab to pull in data from this sheet to do some analysis. What about new releases? As new discs become available Apipheny allows you to automatically refresh data from the DiscIt API.
To schedule updates:
Open the Schedule tab in Apipheny.
Select your saved request.
Choose a refresh interval.
Save the schedule.
Your spreadsheet will automatically pull the latest disc data according to your chosen schedule.
The DiscIt API makes it easy to access detailed disc golf disc information, including flight ratings, stability classifications, brands, and categories. Using Apipheny, you can import this data directly into Google Sheets, build custom disc databases, analyze flight characteristics, compare manufacturers, and keep your spreadsheet automatically updated for the perfect setup.
