Connecting a REST API to Google Sheets with Apipheny is easy. What if you want to chain a few queries together? We’ll walk through how to get that running in 4 steps
Install the Apipheny add-on
Write the API Queries
Chain your queries
Run the API requests in your Google Sheet
Step 1. Install the Apipheny add-on
First click on the Install button at the top right of this page. It will ask for some permissions, then you can activate the extension using the extension menu in a blank Google Sheet.
Step 2. Write the API Queries
At this point you’ll want to write the queries that you want to chain together. After one query is run, then the other one will run. You can write as many as you want. For this example we’ll assume there is two. After clicking save you can use the custom APIPHENY function and the unique ID of the saved query to do the chaining.
Step 3. Chain Your Queries
Now, to link the 2 queries reference put the below formula into the first cell on a new sheet. Here the Sheet1!A2 will have data updated by our first query and req-470a5671-e143-47ed-884d-cf866d110329 is the unique ID of our second query.
The formula checks that data has been updated in Sheet 1 and if it has will run the second query using the APIPHENY custom function that is provided when you install the app.
Step 4. Run Your Query and Watch the Chain
The last step is to click the Run button at the bottom of the Apipheny add-on and then your chained data will be put together. Congratulations!
